-4-
for other structures, column loads will be less. Illumination facili-
ties will include timber poles about 80 feet high. Lateral loads on the
poles were not available at the time of this report.
FIELD EXPLORATIONS AND LABORATORY TESTING
Subsurface conditions were explored by excavating 14 test pits at Hall
Park, designated TP-101 through TP-114; and 16 test pits and 3 hand
auger holes at Kasch Park, designated TP-201 through TP-216, and HA-1
through HA-3. Test pits TP-101 through TP-104 and TP-203 through TP-216
were excavated with a John Deere 2150 tractor equipped with a backhoe
attachment. The remaining test pits were excavated with a Ford backhoe
(model unknown) . The backhoes were equipped with 12-inch wide buckets,
and were provided and operated by the City of Everett Parks Department.
The test pit explorations extended to depths of 4 to 11 feet below the
existing ground surface. Hand auger holes were 1.7 to 5.3 feet deep.
Our field engineer observed the explorations on a full -time basis.
Representative bulk soil samples were collected at selected locations
and depths. Soils were classified, and logs of subsurface conditions
were prepared.
The approximate locations of the explorations are shown on the Site and
Exploration Plans, Drawings 1, 2, and 3. Summary logs of the explora-
tions are presented as Drawings 4 through 36.
Samples were returned to our laboratory for further examination and
testing. Laboratory testing included natural moisture content determi -
nation, grain size analyses, and determination of moisture-density
relationships ("compaction tests") . Laboratory test results are sum-
marized on Drawings 37 through 40.
