My office, Botesch, Nash and Hall, Architects, is located at 2727 Oakes Avenue. We have three other
tenants in our building. We have been in the building seven years now, and we don't have a sign. We
want to do a free-standing sign, but in the B-3 zone, a free-standing sign is not allowed, so we would
have to have a sign on the building. Since this is a hist:oric building on the Everett Register, a sign
would detract from the design of the building. So we were stuck in between.
We have submitted for a Comprehensive Sign Design Review for our sign permit through the city. Part
of the review process is to come here before you to hoefully gain some support for the free-standing
sign that I will show you in a minute. I only have five slides. The first slide shows the B-3 zone. We
walked through the city and found I S businesses that have free-standing signs at this time. Some of
those may predate the ordinance that says you can't have a free-standing sign. But if we have a free-
standing sign approved, we won't be the only one in tewn.
We propose to match the brick on our building and to build a sign that is about 15 square feet with our
name and our tenants' names. The names would be on both sides of the sign. This drawing shows how
tall it would be in proportion to a person. Here's the front of our building looking from Oakes Avenue
east to our front door. To the right you can see the sign. We have tried to blend it in to make it look like
it fits with the building. We even have some concrete n top the sign to match some of the details of the
building.
We are on the corner of Oakes and California, so that' , why we have a two-sided sign. It will be located
on the corner at a 45-degree angle so you can see it corning up California or down from Oakes.
Mark Soine: So the sign is at a 45-degree angle, not like it appears in the representation?
Andy HaIL• Correct. It would have looked really skewed if we had tried to draw the 45-degree angle.
We took some architectural license in the drawing.
The next slide shows how it would be constructed. It's a concrete sign with brick veneer, so it's a
substantial sign that looks like it has always been there. The panels would have the names ofthe
businesses so we can take those off when people move and come in.
Mark Soine: What materials are the name panels made out of?
Andy Hall: These panels are metal. They will be stainless steel. They will either be sprayed black
with stainless steel letters, or we may keep the stainless steel panels with black letters. We have not
made a decision on that yet. The 2727 Oakes will be sandblasted into the concrete.
What we are looking for is your support on this sign permit so when that goes to the Planning
Department for the rest of the review, we will receive approval for the sign. This will look a lot better
than trying to do anything on the building. If we did anything on the building, I think the only thing we
may be able to do is some lettering on our door. It would be kind of small and people could not see it
when they drive by.
Dale Good: Was there never a Challacombe, Fickle and Precht sign on the building?
Andy Hall: i'll show you where it was. There was a sign right here. Then right at the corner of
California and Oakes, they had a monument sign with an old clock in it.
Dale Good: Well why don't you do that again?
. /
