. 15
1.2 The City shall not sell, donate, or knowingly allow any live animal to be used
for experimentation purposes.
1.3 The City shall provide all necessary care providers, receptionists, clerical,
administrative personnel and services required to perform this agreement. The City shall
provide, and pay all costs of, animal shelter services during applicable impound periods.
1.4 The City will keep unlicensed stray dogs and cats for a period of 72 hours
from time of delivery, except as provided herein. Stray dogs and cats bearing a current
license issued within the State of Washington shall be held for a period of 72 hours from
time of notice to owner of such impoundment, or, in the alternative if the owners cannot
be notified, said licensed dogs and cats shall be held for a period of ten days. The County
shall be responsible for delivering notification to owners that their dog or cat has been
impounded. Such notice shall be based on information that the City shall provide to the
County auditor in accordance with the auditor's polices and procedures. The City shall
release animals to owners or dispose of animals not claimed by an owner either by release
for adoption or euthanasia in accordance with applicable laws and terms of this
agreement.
1.5 During the applicable impound period of any animal, the City will release
said animal at the shelter facility to any person who claims to be and provides satisfactory
evidence of the ownership of said animal.
1.6 The City shall have authority to either release for adoption or dispose of an
unclaimed animal after the applicable waiting period specified herein. An animal that has
been released to the shelter by its owner will be eligible for adoption upon receipt at the
shelter unless it was specifically released for euthanasia. The proceeds of such adoption
shall belong to the City.
1.7 Any animal not redeemed by its owner during the prescribed time, or which is
suffering from serious injury or disease, may be humanely destroyed, or in the discretion
of the shelter manager may be held for a longer period and redeemed by any person upon
payment of reasonable medical, impound, and holding costs.
1.8 If agreed upon by the shelter manager and a licensed veterinarian, ill or
injured stray animals, whether licensed or not, whose owners cannot be notified, may be
euthanized if the animal is in pain that cannot be relieved by such care as the shelter staff
can reasonably provide. The City shall have a policy and procedure to follow in
documenting the agreement to euthanize and the procedure to follow in attempting to
reach the owner.
S:lcontractlEverett Animal Sheltel2002-200.1 Everett Shelter Contract
01/07/03 2
6J
