r <br /> M-- <br /> 2 <br /> Whereas,the City Council of the City of Everett finds that it has been recognized by the <br /> overnight lodging industry and the crime prevention community that the level of employee <br /> access into the privacy and safety of its patrons is of such significance as to require certain levels <br /> of employee screening for those hotels and motels with a certain level of police calls for service; <br /> and <br /> Whereas,the term"safety"encapsulates the concerns of both the overnight lodging industry and <br /> the Police Department,to include strategies for combating crimes against persons,crimes against <br /> property,crimes against society, crimes against the host business,and civil liability; <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> Section 1: Chapter 25 of Ordinance No.295-74(Chapter 5.100 EMC)which is entitled as <br /> follows: <br /> HOTELS AND APARTMENT HOUSES <br /> Be and the same is hereby amended to be entitled as follows: <br /> OVERNIGHT LODGING <br /> Section 2: Chapter 25, Section 1 of Ordinance No. 295-74 (EMC 5.100.010)which reads as <br /> follows: <br /> Hotel defined. <br /> For the purpose of this chapter a hotel shall mean every building or structure kept,used or <br /> maintained as,or advertised as, or held out to the pubic to be an inn, hotel or public lodging <br /> house or place where sleeping accommodations are furnished to the public for hire,in periods of <br /> less than one week, in which four or more rooms are used for sleeping accommodations of <br /> guests. <br /> Be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> Definitions. <br /> Unless otherwise provided or unless the context clearly requires a different meaning, the <br /> following terms shall have the meaning given to them herein: <br /> A. "Overnight lodging facility" means any facility such as a hotel, motel, <br /> condominium, resort, or any other facility or place offering three or more lodging units to <br /> travelers and transient guests. <br /> 2 <br /> 4 <br />
