Intracorp E-3592-520
_ September 23, 1998 Page 2
SITE CONDITIONS
Surface
The subject lot is located immediately south of Merrill Creek Parkway in an undeveloped
portion of Seaway Tract 1, Lot 5. The site is bordered to the east and west by asphalt paved
access roads that extend to existing commercial buildings, to the north by Merrill Creek
Parkway, and to the south by south and east facing slopes.
The proposed building area is essentially flat, with a maximum elevation change of
approximately five feet. The existing site grades were cut at least five feet to attain existing
grade. Along the eastern and southern perimeter of the site is a thirty (30) to seventy (70)
foot high descending slope. The slopes range from 2H:1 V(Horizontal:Vertical) to 1.5H:1 V.
The 2H:1 V slopes were cut during gravel mining operations. The 1.5H:1 V slopes were also
cut during mass grading of the Seaway project in 1996. At the toe of the s{ope is an asphalt
paved access road.
The site is vegetated with grass and brush.
Subsurface
Subsurface conditions were evaluated by excavating four test pits at the approximate
locations shown on Plate 2. Please refer to the Test Pit Logs, Plates A2 through A5, for a
more detailed description of the conditions encountered at each test pit location. A
description of the field exploration methods is included in Appendix A. The following is a
generalized description of the subsurface conditions encountered.
At our test pit locations, we typically encountered a one to two foot thick layer of inedium
dense to dense fill comprised of silty sand with gravel. The observed fill appears to have been
derived from on-site materials or from material removed from earlier phases of the Seaway
development. The fill was similar to the underlying native soil, but appeared to be disturbed.
It was most likely placed after the major excavation of the site took place.
The underlying native soils were comprised of inedium dense to dense, interbedded sequences
of poorly graded gravel with silt and sand, poorly graded sand with sift and gravel, poorly
graded sand with gravel, silty gravel and silty sand (Unified Soil Classifications GP-GM,
SP-SM, SP, GM and SM, respectively). The observed soils typically consisted of gradational
sequences from coarse grained material at the top of the excavation to finer grained soils
toward the bottom.
Earth Consultents, Inc.
