Intracorp E-3592-520
_ September 23, 1998 Page 3
Groundwater
Groundwater seepage was not observed at any of our test pit locations, but the observed soils
typically became moist to wet at approximately nine feet below existing grade. Based on
proposed finished grades and upon observed site conditions we do not anticipate groundwater
seepage will be encountered in site excavations. However, the contractor should be aware
that groundwater levels are not static. Groundwater levels can be expected to fluctuate
significantly depending on the season, amount of rainfall, surface water runoff, and other
factors. Generally, the groundwater level is higher in the wetter winter months (typically
October through May). The contractor should be prepared to control groundwater if seepage
is encountered in site excavations
Laboratory Testina
Laboratory tests were conducted on several representative soil samples to verify or modify
the field soil classification and to evaluate the general physical properties and engineering
characteristics of the soil encountered. Visual classifications were supplemented by grains
size analyses on representative samples. Moisture content tests were performed on all
samples. The results of laboratory tests performed on specific samples are provided either
at the appropriate sample depth on the individual test pit logs or on a separate data sheet
contained in Appendix B. It is important to note that these test results may not accurately
represent the overall in-situ soil conditions. Our geotechnical recommendations are based on
our interpretation of these test results and their use in guiding our engineeringjudgement. ECI
cannot be responsible for the interpretation of these data by others.
In accordance with our Standard Fee Schedule and General Conditions, the soil samples for
this project will be discarded after a period of fifteen days following completion of this report,
unless we are otherwise directed in writing.
DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
General
Based on the results of our study, it is our opinion the proposed building can be constructed
generally as planned. Building support can be provided using a conventional spread and
continuous footing foundation bearing on competent native soil, or on structural fill used to
modify site grades. Slab-on-grade floors may be similarly supported.
As part of our study, we conducted a reconnaissance of the north, east and southeast slopes.
Based on the results of our reconnaissance, it is our opinion the site slopes are stable and
should not be adversely impacted by the proposed development provided the
recommendations in this letter are followed.
Earth Consuhents, Inc.
