Novembcr 9, 200G
Singlc-Family Residence - I3elvedcrc Lol 4
L&A 1ob No. GA 149
Pagc 6
Jownspouts and with catch basins installed in paved drivewuys. The collected water should be
tightlined to discharge into a stortn sewer or u suituble s!ortnwater disposal facility. Spoil soils
and yardvastc should not bc diswscd of onto the stecp slope within the lot.
Seismic Hazard
The Puget Sound region is in an active seismic zone. "Ihe subject lot is underlain at shallow
depth by densr, to very-dense Gsperancc SunJ soils of moderately-high to high shear strength.
Also, therc is a lack of extensive, stutic groundwater table ut shallow depth under the lot.
'Therefore, the potential for scismic hazards, such as deep-seated landslides, liquefsction, lateral
soil spreading, to occur on the lot should be minimal. The residence to be consWcted on the lot,
however, should be dcsigned for seismic forces induced by strong earthquakes. Based on the soil
conditions encountered by the tcst pits, it is our opinion that Seismic Use Group [ and Site Clnss
U should be used in the seismic design of the prnsed residences in accordnnce with the 2003
Intcrnational I3uilding Codc (16C).
SITF. PRF.PAItAT10N ANU GENF.RAL GRADING
Sitc preparation should includc cicaring and grubbing within construction limits. Topsoil nnd
loose wcathercd soils should be completcly stripped within building pad and drivewflys. This
may reyuire over-excavation up to about 4 tccl in somc ureas of thc lot. The exposed surface
shoulJ he compacted to a non-yielJing stale wiAi a vibrutory roller compactor and proof-rolled
with the carthwork eyuipmcnt oxrated on site.
"Ie on-sitc surlicil soils conlain a fair percentagc of fines and ure sensitive to moisture. A layer
of Jean yuarry spalls should be pluced over excavuted ureas und areas of Gequent traffic, as
reyuin:d, to pmlect the suhgradc soils liom disturbauce by construction trac. Silt fences should
be erected along the Jownhill boundazics of the site to prevent sedimcnts being transported by
LIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
