0
To: Temple Baptist/Group Health
From: Ron Cameron
Cate: September 29, 1986
S.ibject: Casino crosswalk
R'luctance to install a :narked crosswalk described in
tie May memo is based on two concerns:
the majority of ped collisions occur in marked crosswalks,
(only E - 10 R are marked) which has led to the "false sense of
security theory"; ped:i in marked crosswalks appear to not take as
much cnut::on crousing resulting in the collisions.
2 study of the neirty Casino crosswalk shov,s the peds Jisregard it
ith 2/3 f the reds n)t even using it.
The May memo expressed concern that a signal does not meet the Warrant
conditions and installation would likely result in an increase of
traffic accidents instead of decrease (rear end collisions, etc.).
Addtional traffic investigation shows installing a crosswalk at this
location could serve traffic crossing between the bus shelters (stops) as
well as local pedestrian traffic. Perhaps the local pedestrian 'raffic wi
follow the Group Health employees example of using the marked crosswalk
instead of °J walkingti.
