BOEING UEL DOCK - TRBNCH DRAIN )ULY 19i4
3.6 JOINTS:
A. Construct, weakcned-plane (contraction) and construction joints truc to linc with (acc
perpendicular to surflce of concrete. Construct transverse joints at right angles to
centerline unless otherwise indicated.
3.7 WEAKENBD-PLANE (CONTRACTION) JOINTS:
A. Provide weakened-plane (contraction)joints, sectioning concrete into areas to match
existing wnditions. Construct wealcened-plane joints for a depth equal ro t east 1/4
concrete thickness, as follows:
1. Tooled loints: Form weakened-plane joints in fruh concrete by grooving top
portion with a recommended cutting tool and finishing edges with a.jointer.
2. Sawed loints: Form weakened-plane joints with pawered saws equipped with
shatterproof abrasive or diamond-rimmed blades. Cut joints into hardened
concrete as soon az surface will not be tom, abraded, or otherwise damaged
by cutting action.
3.8 CONSTRUCTION JOINTS:
p, Place concrete joints at end of placen, ents to match existing conditions, and at
locations where plaament operations ue stopped for a period of more than 1/2 Iour,
except where such placements tecmirute at expansion joints.
1. Constnut joints as shown or, if not shown, use standard metal keyway-section
forms.
2. Refer to reference drawings for existing joint layout and conditions.
3.9 GXPANSION JOINTS:
A. Provide premoldsd joint filler for expansion joints abutting concrcte wrbs, catch
basins, manholes, inlets, structura, walks, and other fixcd objects, unlcss otherwise
. indicated.
1. Locate expansian joints to match existing conditia.s unless otherwisp
indicated.
B. Extend joint fillers full width and depth of joint and not less than 1/2 incl or more
than 1 inch below finished surface where joint sealer is indicated. If no joint aealer,
plaa top of joint filler flush with finished concrete surface.
C. Fumish joint fillera in one-piece lengths for full width being placed, whercver
possible. Whete more than one length is tequired, lace or clip joint filler stctions
together.
PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVING 02520 - 6
