4 <br /> 13 <br /> Safety <br /> Purpose: Itis the responsibility of the manager and/or the coach(es) to insure the safety of <br /> members and guests. It is the responsibility of the members to comply with safety policies <br /> and procedures and insure the compliance of all guests. <br /> Procedures: Managers are responsible for making decisions as to the safety of rowing in <br /> the following conditions. These conditions are: <br /> i. Rowing conditions: <br /> A. Water: <br /> 1.) Flood stage- as noted at Snohomish (telephone # 388-3653 <br /> 2.) Currents- OI incoming and outgoing tides. Must be determined <br /> for launching and docking into the currant. <br /> 3.) Water Level- note the tide levels to determine safe areas to row <br /> 4.) Tidal and Current Conditions-determine the necessity to avoid <br /> high risk areas, i.e_bridge abutments, river obstructions, log <br /> storage areas and loose debris. <br /> 3.) Cancellations of Rowing- it is the prerogative of the program <br /> manager, boathouse manager or coach to cancel rowing <br /> without prior notice due to conditions. <br /> B. Weather and Light: <br /> 1.) Light: row only during daylight hours as defined: one(I).hour <br /> before sunrise and one(1) hour after sunset. <br /> 2.) Temperature-no rowing when air temperature is 32 F or below; <br /> if there is ice on the river, or when the ramp is too icy to get a <br /> launch or shell safely up and down. <br /> 3.) Wind- no rowing in unprotected areas with winds above 12 <br /> knots, when there are whitecaps on the water, or when there <br /> are waves higher than the boat gunwales. <br /> 4.) Fog- do not row in foggy conditions unless there is good <br /> visibility for 100 yards ( the length of a football field, or from <br /> bank to bank at the boathouse) and conditions are stable or <br /> improving. If caught in fog, return to the boathouse as <br /> carefully as possible. <br /> 26 <br />
