Washington Preservation Initiative
2005 Grant Application
9
5. Describe the ability of the library to implement and support the proposed
activity.
Consider the following items in developing the response:
• Who will implement the project and what is their level of expertise?
• What are the qualifications of the vendors, conservators, consultants,
and/or staff to do the proposed work?
• What is the availability of vendors, conservators, consultants, and/or staff to
assist in completion of the project?
:;;:,,,,',3,,-`:
Ar
v;
>.0 ® *4'i YM lIftr z 4+l ' 3,iti4 t - . f e + ,nir4 fl,10 a`z44r pB !:) e * rs .'."----:;'''.1'.-
n e thatthe A u 5s t0 4it'• i GyJiF iy sran , .?,'.7, -,.,,
,!! Riddle has attended workshops on preservation, most recently hearing
Alan Lewis speak about Preservation of Machine-Based Audiovisual Materials. She also
keeps in close touch with colleagues in the field in order to keep updated on new methods and
new materials. She was the project director for our previous LSTA preservation grant. She
was co-director for a digital initiative grant that enabled us to buy Content DM software to put
our Everett Massacre materials on the Internet. Margaret has also attended workshops given
by the NEDCC (Northeast Document Conservation Center) and uses their website frequently
for information on preservation. She has read their working paper online"Microfilm and
Microfiche" by Steve Dalton.
For this project,Margaret consulted with both NEDCC and OCLC. Both have excellent
reputations in the field. Both provide the recommended standard non-perforated polyester
film base that has a life expectancy of 500+years under proper storage conditions. Both
provide archival storage of master microfilms. We would prefer working with OCLC's
Preservation Service Center in Lacey, Washington, since it has been highly recommended by
University of Washington colleagues and since our materials could be hand-delivered to them.
51.
17 of 25
