6
717-33rd St.
Everett, WA 98201
February 7, 2005
Allan Giffen, Director
Planning and Community Development Department
2930 Wetmore Ave., Suite 8-A
Everett, WA 98201
Dear Mr. Giffen,
I am writing to express my opinion on increasing maximum building heights on the east
side of Rucker Ave. to accommodate the project planned by Skotdal Real Estate. While I
understand and agree with the necessity of increasing urban population density to meet
the requirements of the Growth Management Act, I suggest you proceed with care and
foresight. One hundred fifty feet in that area is a radical change.
Before issuing permits for any variation in the current height limit, I hope you will do
two things. First, I believe every property owner who is close enough to be affected by
these buildings should be contacted by first class mail to get their input. If serious
disagreement is expressed, I believe you should try to brainstorm creative solutions with
Skotdal representatives and nearby property owners in the same room.
Second, I hope you will approve or disapprove height variations on a case by case basis
rather than making a permanent change in the code. These two particular buildings may
be creatively worked into the landscape just fine. That does not necessarily mean that it
would work for someone else's plan down the street.
Good luck with this difficult challenge.
Sincerely,
Bob Jackson
J1
