This year's event recognized the positive achievements and perseverance of seven young people in an evening ceremony at the April 20 Everett City Council meeting. For the 16th year, the City of Everett honors Everett's outstanding young people from among those nominated for their achievements in the community. The annual awards are presented to students for outstanding accomplishments, willingness to serve and dedication to positive, worthwhile goals. They must have excelled in such a way to bring honor to themselves, family and community. This year's Achievement Award winners were chosen from nominations received and reviewed by a committee of city and community representatives that included Everett City Council President Marian Krell, Jim McNally, of the Everett School District; Earl Martin, of Everett Community College; Martha Robins, of the Snohomish County Executive's office; Everett Fire Chief Murray Gordon, Mark Nesse, Everett library director and Kate Reardon, Everett's public information director. The seven winners for 2005 are: Reda Lee: 18-year old Reda attends Cascade High School and will graduate this spring. She is the youngest in a family of six children. While attending school and working part-time, Reda pursued a variety of leadership roles that helped her find her true identity.
