Mayar Moore
Ron Cameron, Trafiic Engineer
July 16, 1974
W'EaLER'S GA5 LINES
/ \
r'\
 `jU /ril

Sgt. G1cDannald of the Everett Police Department and I met with Eldon j'exler,
their Comptroller, and timir Security Advisor on Tuesday, July 3, 1979 (3:30 -430
p.m.) following Counul's discussion of the gas line problem on Evergreen Way at
Ai's Auto.
V/e!cler explained t:at the Grove and Did<'s Auto had already calied and would have
the businesses (about b) soiitfi of Piexler's ard tlie F1eming residents at Council if
the lines were routed on Fleming as reported by the news. 7'he concerns were:
- Blocking Flering's driveways
- Cutiing through lots (Grove ,'Jick's, Filibecks, etc.) from Evergreen
to Fleming creating hazard for customers, noise, e tc.
- 1'raffic congestion on Fleming - a narrow road.
- Traffic coming from both direction into the Lake St. entrance at Al's.
- The line onto Evergreen iluctuates and cannot be regularly predicted;
what happens vhen there is a tmali line not into Evergreen (the lines go
in "spurts")?
- R'exler empioyees parking on Fleming have had tires siashed already.
Sgt. A1cDannala e>pressed concerr. of traffic safety with speeding cars, the line,
and narrcwness of Fleming afd ihat it would be difficult to safely patrol.
The control ei traffic blocking driveways between Pay n Palc and the shop next to
Al's is almost Impossible vith available means. They have angle parking directly
off Evergreen - approximatety 200 feet of continuous driveway. Al's had given rope
iith flags to identify hlding areas beYween "driveways" but even with the flags
and cardboard signs tU IVOT BLOCY. URIVEWAYi, there was a continuous line.
There is no pcactical way to install City "NO PARKING" signs that wouldn't be run
over or pose pedestrian hazard in the paved shoulder parking area. The 40 feet
needed to backout and maneuver irom thc stores extends into the shoulder area
where the gas line forms.
? offered a diagramatic sign showing heavy lines for Evergrecn, hiadisoi and
Fleming with names and arrows idntifying the route and a legend saying "GAS
LINE FOP.h95 VIA FLt-hiING", and "LINE FORhiS 5/O HERE" for Fleming. Al's was
concerned that even Hith flags, cones, ancl the sign that :raffic would cut around
:he pumps through the exit arPa and into the line, resulting in fist fights.
li
