Undrained filters shall <br />no[ be placed in the dumpster under any circumstances. <br />Gas, oil, transmission, and hydraulic Eluids, radiator coolant and any other Fluids shall be drained from vehicies <br />being scrapped or retired vehicles which H'ill be kept on site. These fluids shall be disposed of properly, <br />preferably by recycling. <br />42.2.3 B�IP 51.20 VEHICLE/EQUIPMENT WASHING AND STEAM CLE4NING <br />Washing of vehicles, equipment and parts such as construction equipment, shall occur in a building or in a <br />designated area such as that described beiow. This requimment refers to all methods of washing in which water <br />is used, including low-pressure water, high-pressure water, and steam. <br />Note: The use of mobile wash services rs rrot allo�ved unless the wash warer con 6e contained and dischargzd ru <br />a sanitary sewer per the requirenents ojthe Ciry's lndustrial Pretrealment Program or drscharged into and be <br />treared by a cJosed-loop recycling system. Exceptions to these Genera! Requiremenfs are noted be(ow. <br />GENERAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Wash water from vehicle and equipment cleaning shall be discharged to the sanitary sewer, after mee[ing the <br />requirements of the Ciry's Indusvial Pretreatment Program. The owner shall conduct washinE; in one of :he <br />following locations in ordar of oreference: <br />1. At a commercial washing business in which the wasPiing occurs in an enclosure and drains to the sanitary <br />sewer or; <br />2. Inside the owner's vehicle or Pquipment building which is plumbed to drain to the sanitary s�wer or; <br />3. In a building the owner has constructed specifically for washing of vehicles and equipment which is <br />plumbed to drain to the sanitary sewer or; <br />4. In a covered, outside area designated by the vehicle owner as a wash area, meeting the requirements <br />outlined below. <br />REQUIREMENTS FOR �V�SH AREAS <br />I. The area shall be ps+ed, preferably with ?ortland cement, and constructed as a spill cor.tainment pad to <br />prevent the run-on of s[ortnwater from adjacent pavement areas. The wash area shall be graded so that <br />all water is collected in a drain system. The drain system may consist of perimeter drains, trench drains, <br />or catchment drains. The wasli pad shall be sized to estend out a minimum of four feet on 111 sides of the <br />vzhicles and/or equipment being washed. <br />2. A Portland cement spill cont3inment pad is required for steam cleaning. <br />3. All wash water shall discharge to the sanitary sewer, process treatment, or a dead-end sump, per <br />industrial Pretreatment Progr�m requirements. <br />4. In areas where the wash water cannot be discharged to a sanitar/ se�ver, wuh water must be collected <br />a dead-end sump, tank, or other device artd transported ro the m:arest sanitary facility for proper dispos:.. <br />5. The wash area shall be well marked at gas stations, multi-family residences, and any other business <br />where vehicles may be washed by non-employees. Included in the posting shall be a statement <br />forbidding the changing of oil in the wash area. <br />4-2-7 <br />
