It ie
the only one of the solutions diacussed which would not affect the appearance
of the ehowroom,
4• SEP.VICE ENTRY AREA
4.1 Structural Descrintion
The Service Entry building ie two-etory frame coastruction. The upper
etory contains offices and ie of typical light frame conatruction, with
atud bearing walls and a flat roof framed with sawn rafters. The lowe:
etory ie wider [han the upper story nnd coneiets of joist supported on
glued laminated beams and frame bearing walls.
4.2 Structural Deficienciea
The only s[ructural deficiency in this area is the lack of sufiicient
reeietance to lateral forcea in the north-sauth direction. The uppe;
etory ie ligh[ and t}e plywood sheathing which is typical on exterior
walls would provide sufficient lateral resistance for this story, However,
the lower story has only two frame walls in the north-south direction and
these are both interior walls with plasterboard on both sides and very little
capacity as ehear walls.
The upper floor provides sufficient atrength to carry t.he floor loads
from the offices as well ae the loade from the office bearing walls, even
when loaded at the joie[ midepan.
4.3 Fecoendations
Provide lateral resietance in the north-south direc[ion by sheathing [he
eaet wall o£ this area on ona side with plywooc?, installing framing anchors
at the top oE the wall and providing additional bolting to the slab at the
bot[om of the wall.
5

i ?O j c. :': _, :,a c: . ,. +
