DWR CONSULTANTS, Inc., Geotechnical Invesfiga(ion
Proposed Saleway Gasoline Station, June 8, 2000
a. Lightly loaded areas (parking and driveways):
1. Two inches of Asphalt Concrete (AC) over 4 inches of Crushed Rock
Base (CRB) or:
2. Two inches of AC ovcr three inches of Asphalt Treated Base (ATB)
material.
Heavily Loaded Areas (e.g. bus iralficJ
1. Three inches of AC oar 6 inches of CRB, or
2. Three inches of AC over 4.5 inches of ATB.
6.4 Excavation of On-Site Soils
A maximum 1.5 horizontal to 1 vertical slope is recommended for all unsupported
sidewalis.
2. Any trenching or excavations more than 4 ft. deep either requires the previously
meniioned side slopes or shore/t,race the excavation. A light gray gravel layer
with basaltic sand, encountered at Reference Site No. 1, sloughs at
approximately 2H:1 V. If a similar layer is encountered at this site, it will require
special consideration for trench excavation techniques.
The above information on slope protection is based on OSHA regulalions and is
provided entirely as a service to our CLIENT. Under no circumstances shouid this
information be interpreted to mean that DWR CONSULTANTS, Inc. assumes
responsibility for consiruction site safety or the Contractor's activities; such
responsibility is not being implied and should not be inierred.
6.5 Storm Water Management
A standard drywell will percolate at least S ft. per hour in this type of soil.
6.6 Structural Fill and Compaction
Much of the structural fill requirement has been discussed in previous Sub-
sections. There are two ilems not addressed above that require incorporation into the
fill requirements tha: are widely recognized guidelines tor (ill operations:
The maximum particle size should not exceed 2/3 of the fill layer being placed.
2. A loose layer thickness of 8 inches or less provides lhe best compacted soil
sirength given and aggregate size of 5 inches or less.
