Geolneic Investigation and Geotechnical Engineering Report 98-08-10
Jones Residence
3611 Eederal.ave.
Everett, Washington
4.2 Site Preparation
Site preparation will include clearing/grubbing and the re ::ovel of all existing improvements in order to
establish construction grades within the building areas. laitial site preparation had been started prior to our
site investigations. Access routes into the site were being placed. Based on our review of the supplied site
plans, access routes into the site will require the placement of structural fill. These access routes should be
constructed following the pertinent sections of this report. if soils along access routes into and out of the
site become moisture disturbed during any portion of this project, a minimum twelve-(/?) inch mat of4" to
6" :rushed rock should be placed. The thickness of the mat may have to be increased with time if the
basal soil starts pumping during the course of the site work.
We recommend that site clearing and grubbing be limited to the immediate building envelops, parking
areas, access routes and utility corridors across the site. Clearing and grubbing should include the removal
of all trees, vegetation, top soil, organic rich soil or soil with excessive amounts of roots in it — down to the
underlying Transitional Beds (Utb) - Silts. The Silts of the Transitional Beds (()tb) are the recommended
base soils for construction on this site. Based on the site investigation, depths to these materials will vary
from one ( /) to three (3) feet below existing grades across the site. The fill found in the northeast corner of
the property should be left in place at this time.
Please refer to the Test Pit Logs contained in Appendix E for details concerning the depths to the
recommended construction soils in any particular area across the site. Any materials removed from this site
should be disposed of at permitted sites or licensed recycling facilities. We recommend that a copy of the
site fill permit or facility licensee be supplied to the owner prior to allowing the contractor to take any
materials to the site/facility.
Excavation and grading should be accomplished in such a manner as to allow continued and controlled
drainage throughout the site. Drainage controls should be established following the recommendations
contained in section 4.9 of this report. Due to the moisture sensitive nature of the silts found below this
site, the site soils are not recommended for use as fill or structural fill. See section 4.3 of this report for
8 GES, Inc.
