Geologic Investigation and rleotechrucal Eniyne;rin¢ Report 98-08-10
Jones Residence
3611 Federal Ave.
Everett, Washington
in depth should be retained by suitable designed retaining systems or digging boxes unless the side slopes
are laid back to a minimum 1:1(H: 6) slope.
Excavations for utility placement should be performed in compliance Nvith WSDOT Standard
Specification section 2-09. Structure Excavation. The depth of excavation, removal of unsuitable base
materials and disposal of those materials should be performed in accordance with applicable sections of this
report.
We recommend that GES, Inc. observe all cuts when first exposed and on a periodic basis there after. This
inspection will confirm the consistency of materials with those encountered during the initial site
investigation as well as verity the apparent safety of the cut/excavation. All cuts and excavations should be
covered with visqueen and protected from rain, desiccation by the sun or erosion immediately after this
inspection has occurred. All cuts and excavations should be carefully watched and observed. If cracking
or movement is observed, GES, Inc. should be contacted immediately to view the area and develop
recommendations to remediate the problem.
4.5 Foundation Placement and Design Recommendations
The proposed residence will be supported upon shallow, isolated or continuous spread footings. We
recommend that continuous spread footings supporting three-(3) story structures be a minimum 24- in
width. Continuous spread footings placed below two-(2) and one-(]) story structures should be a minimum
16" in width. Isolated footings should be a minimum 24" in diameter. All exterior footing elements should
be placed a minimum 18" below adjacent exterior grades for frost protection or to the minimum depths
discussed in this section of the report. The maximum allowable safe bearing pressure of 2000 psf may be
utilized for the design of shallow continuous and isolated foundation elements bearing on soil as
recommended below. The allowable bearing pressures may be increased by up to 1/3 to accommodate
short term, seismic and transient loads.
GES, Inc.
