Zx�nng Propeitl' Y�!-l1-10 <br /> Ererett, IVnsBingla� <br /> 3.2 Gcolo�ic Setting <br /> The site lies in a physiographic region Irnown as the Puget Sound Lowland. The <br /> Puget Sound Lowland consists of a linear depression which trends in a north-south <br /> direction between the Olympic Mountains to the west and the Cascade Mountains to <br /> the east. The lowland contains the majority of the Puget Sound area. During the <br /> recent geologic past, within the last 1 million years, the topography of the Puget <br /> Sound Lowland was altered by a series of glacial events originating out of the <br /> Canadian Rockies and the Northem Cascade Mountains. <br /> Deposits of at least four (4) Pleistocene aged glaciations have been identitied in the <br /> Puget Sound Lowland. The last of these glaciations has been named the Fraser, and <br /> includes two recognized glacial advances (stades) separated by an interstade. The <br /> younger stade of the Fraser glaciation is the Sumas, while the older is the Vaslion. <br /> Deposits of the Vashon stade are present in the project area. This event, the <br /> Vashon stade, covered most of the Puget Sound Lowland and the project site with <br /> up to 3,000 feet of glacial ice from appro�:imately 18,000 to 13,000 years ago. This <br /> glacial event altered the topography of the Puget Sound Lowland and the project <br /> area to resemble its present configuration. <br /> As a result of these glacial events, most of the surficial and/or near surficial soil <br /> types encountered within the Puget Sound Lowland are derived from or direcdy <br /> associated with glaciation.
