 (

Ltr. D. Klappenbach (B0202-025)
Apri1H, 2002
Page 2
3. 'I'he building is within allowable area for Type V 1-HR Construction without the
sprinkler system used for area increases. Therefore, the sprinkler system could be
used for fire-resistive substitu[ion of one-hour construction (i[ would still be classified
as a V 1-HR building as needed for the A-3 Occupancy on the second floor). The
result would be that those building elcments that are specified under Table 6-A (for V
1-HR) would not be required to be of fire-resistive construction. The remainder of this
plan rcview lencr assumes that the Building is of Type I1I-IHr construction as
submitted. Sections 504.1, 504.2, 5043, 505.1.2 & 505.3
4. A room that houscs a spray booth that is less than 500 square feet is not required to be
classified as an H-2 or H-3 Occupancy unless it is within an A, E, I or R Occupancy,
or has more than the exempt amount of hazardous materials stored/used then allowed
in Tables 3-D and 3-E. The room should therefore bc reclassified as an S or F
Occupancy (note then that the 2-hour occupancy separation is not required, however it
is assumed to be in p(ace for this review). Sectiuns 4502.1 &4502.2.2, UFC
5. A hazardous materials inventory report shou!d be provided. The materials, storage
and use condition should be shown to correlate to Tables 3-D &3-E. Section 307.1.6
i. An assumed property line should be shovn between the maintenance and operations
buildings — exterior vall and opening protection is then governed by Table 5-A, and
parapets by Section 709.4.1. Note that the canopy on the Soudi creates tloor area
which may need to be protected. Sections 503.3 & 207
Occupancy
1. The classification of the S-2 Occupancies should be justified to include a brief
description of the materials stored (carpentry storage is noted which would be
combustible). Othenvise, it should be changed to an S-1 Occupancy. Section 311.1.
2. The Lunch Room has an occupant load greater than SO.and should be classified as an
A-3 Occupancy. Section 304.1
3. The F-1 voodworl:ing shop is over 2,500 square feet. A one hour-occupancy
separation between it and the B Occupancy above should be shown. Table 3-B,
Footnote 5
4. The floor in the S-3 Occupancy should be shown sloped to drain to an oil separator or
trap discharging to the sewec Sectian 311.2.3.1
5. The occupant load oF the lunch room should be posted. The signs' nomenclature
should be shown on the plans. Section 1007.2.6
Z/
I
