Plan Check 112
Larry Callahan
August 9, 19II5
Page Three
c. Placement of structural fill belo• the `loor• slab •iill occur below
the three-story portion and should require coinpaction tests. A report
of satisfactory placement of fill , acceptable to you, should be sub-
mitted. Section 2903(a;
d. The soils rEport recomnends that all foundation bearing strata should
be inspected by the soils engineer prior to placement of foundations.
e. The perimet?r foundation drainage system, shoan on Sheet A-9, should
be detailed.
f. The report recommencis a 2" sand layer, over the moisture barrier, below
the slab-on-grade.
g. The report repeatedly emphasizes that site soils are sensitive to over-
wettin9 and that gradin9 during wet aeather, or wet aeatler nccuring
after 9rading and prior to placement of slab and pavements, could
result in areas requiring excavation and regrading. This should be
carefully monitored by the soils engineer during construction.
h. Because of this, you may wish to request laboratory tests determinin9
optimum moisture content of the site soils to insure that proper criteria
is established. Section 2904(b)
3. Foundations and retaining walls:
a. I assume that the retaining walls betweeen grids J and L, 3.5 and
6, are to be reinforced per the retaining wall schedule on Sheet 5-1.
Further details should be provided. 61any of the walls span horizontally
to cross walls rather than vertically. Horizontal reinforcing at the '
exposed face is required under Lhat condition. Section 2303(b)
b. The walls shown on F/S-1 also have the problem of spanning horizontally ,
in some locations, such as at C.6 and 2.7.
c, Referring to Detail 1/5-2, the pier dimension parallel to grid L should
be provided. Three #3 ties should be provided around anchor bolts within
5" of the top of the column. Section 2607(k)3.D. Based on the base
plate and column dimensions given, the anchor bolts cannot be placed
outside the column flanges as shown and still be within the ties, Yihile
maintaining lZ' concrete cover over the ties as required in Section
2607(h). ;
d. Three 3 or two 4 ties should also be provided in the top 5" around
the anchor bolts in etails G/5-1, 2/S-7 and A/S-S.
