4.0 SITE EXPLORATION OBSERVATIQNS AND FINDINGS
The findings of this site exploration are presented below. Summaries of the analytical
results obtained durig this exploration arc presented on Tables I and 2. The analytical
laboratory report for the analyzed soil samples is attached in Appendix D of this report.
Chain-of custody forms aze also included in Appendix D.
4.1 Soil Boring Findings
The seven borings drilled during the site exploration were advanced to depths ranging from
approximately 6 to 60 feet below ground surface. These borings gene:ally encountered well-
graded (poorly sorted) silts, sands, and gravels to a depth of approximatcly 37 feet (glacial
till). At this depth, poorly graded (well sorted) sands with some small gravels were
discovered (advance outwash sands). Thin stringers of fine-giained sediments were preser.t
witb.in the sand layer. Fre,• groundwater was not encountered in any of the borings.
However, thin layers of moist soils were discovered (above these finer-grain layers) at
localized depths, as indicated on the boring logs.
Boring ;ocations aze presented on Figure 2. The boring logs aze presented in Appendix C.
Each log presents soil types and descriptions, sampling intervals, soil-density information,
field observations, noted odors, and a schemaHc of any monitoring ;vell installed.
4.1.1 Analylical Resu/ts, Soil Borings
G-Logics submitted soil samples &om the two borings located closest to the former gasoline
UST location. The sar.ples were submitted for petroleum-hydrocarbon analyses. Of the
three samples submitted from BI-I-S and the five samples submitted &om BH-7, only two
cor.tained detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. Toluene was discovered at
a concentration of 0.2 mg/kg at a depth of 45 feet in BH-6. Petroleum hydrocazbons,
quantified as gasoline, were detected at a concentration of 7 mg/kg in the 20-foot sample
from BH-7. These detected wncentrations do not exceed MTCA Method A Cleanup
Levels.
4.2 Monitoring Well Findings
As stated above, groundwater was not discovered (as measued on several occasions) in the
two newly installed monitoring wells. However, water was discovered in existinK vapor
monitoring wel;, VW-2.
01-0105-C•RT.doc . i( SlyL's
CoPyridht 2001 G.Logics. Inc. Page 9 of I4 J ✓
