■
V o V # 4 s
Hr D
i t7 REPORT SUN Q
i 1989
O tl5
> ....................T..........
J 'uaicOh kS CRE P
'<H0 From: Marian Payne, Housing Inspectors ePt.
O O
[HiH Date: June 6, 1989
xH t"
M y d Subj: 2108 Hoyt
OHC
c~iMcOi A complaint was received today from Robert Cody, 2108 Hoyt
z H Apt. #2. He had been a resident of the garage on the
r>„ property which had been posted "Illegal to Occupy" on May
H H 19th of this year.
oti
by Mr. Cody stated that upon posting of the garage, the manager
M had placed him in one of the eight dwelling units in the
Z y O house on the property. Since he moved into the unit, he
H Otn noticed a large hole in the ceiling of his one room unit and
water from the shower from above constantly runs from the
area of the hole.
At approximately 5 or 6 PM last night, water pipes broke
in
the building, cascading water from the second floor into
the
community kitchen and Mr. Cody's unit. The water was shut
off at that time. Mr. Cody indicated that the manager ck
the
units was aware of the problem.
a
I asked Mr. Cody if he would allow me into his unit for
an
w
inspection and he said yes.
At approximately 11:30 AM today, Jim Hanson, Code Enforcement
Officev and myself met with Mr. Cody on the property.
We
entered the unit Mr. Cody occupied and saw a large hole,
r
approximately one foot square in the ceiling. The tile
of
the remainder ceiling against the inside wall was sagging
and
damp from moisture. The carpet in the unit was wet to
the
touch. Jim Hanson took pictures of the damage.
's
We then went down a hallway which led to the community
kitchen. There was an elderly woman at the sink using the
sink to wash something. I asked her where she got the water
and she said she got it from a neighbor. The panelled wall
on the north side of the kitchen bowed real bad, obviously
from water damage. The elderly lady and Mr. Cody had both
indicated at that time that water cascaded down that wall
when the pipes broke. Mr. Cody said that the elderly lady
cleaned up all the water in the kitchen after the incident.
Jim Hanson took pictures of the damaged wall.
