i <br /> SECTIOiV 8-20.3 Coastruction Requirements <br /> ' SECTION 8-20.3(1) OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS IS SUPPLEMENTED BY THE <br /> FOLLOWING: <br /> 8-20.3(1) General <br /> 8-20.3(1)A Traffic Ccntrol(New Section) <br /> IThe Contractor shall provide unifortned Police control at any time an intersection is dark or inoperative, such as <br /> during cuntroller changE-out, cable installation, signal turn-on or cut-over, or similar circumstances. The <br /> I Contractor shall have all traffic controls (i.e., pavement markings, channeiization and sogning) in place prior to <br /> requesting Engineer's app:oval for tum-on or cut-over. <br /> To maintain safe traffic conditions,existing signals shall remaiu in operation until a simultaneous cut-over to the <br /> signal can be accomplished. <br /> At the time of tum-o i of new signals, temporary "SIGNAL AHEAD" signs shall be placed upstream on all <br /> i approaches. These signs shall remain in place for not Icss than 7 nor more than 21 calendar days. All signs shall <br /> be highly visible and placed in a safe and secure location. <br /> At the time of cut-over of revised signals having phasing which is diffcrent from dic old signal operation (i.e., <br /> added phase, split phase, etcJ temporary "TRAFFIC REVISION" signs shall be placed upstream on all <br /> zpproaches. These signs shall remain in place for not less than 7 nor more than 14 calendar days.At a cut-over of <br /> r�vised signals having phasing which is the same as the old signal operation, no temporary signing is necessary. <br /> All signs sliall be higlily visible and placed in a safe and recure location. <br /> I SECTION 8-20.3(3) OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS IS SUPPLEMENTED BY THE <br /> IFOLLO�i'ING: <br /> 8-20.3(3) Removing and Replacing Improvements <br /> The installation of underground signal components such as conduits, junction boxes, signal pole foundations, <br /> controiler foundations, or service pedestal foundations shall require the removal and replacement of certain <br /> improvements such as traffic signal poles, signal conlrollers, span wires, signal heads,junc:ion boxes, and otl�er <br /> I miscellancous signal equipment. it shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to perfortn such removal as <br /> required for his work and to restore these areas to original condition as directed by the Engincec T'he Contractor <br /> shall sawcut edges of all asphalt and concrete requiring removal. All expansion joints, dummy joints, and "V" <br /> I grooves shall be removed and shall be replaced to match existing join[s. <br /> The ends mid edgcs of the patched and re-s�rfaced areas shall meet and matcl� the existing surface and grade and <br /> shall terminate in neat even lines parallel to and at right angles to the roadway. Damaged, disturbed, or othenvise <br /> I affected areas, as defined, shall have edges of e�isting pavement trimmed back to provide clean, solid, vertical <br /> faces, frec from loose material. Pavement patching shall be preformed in accordance with Standard Drawing No. <br /> 316 and these specifications. <br /> � Where patches are made in cement concrete pavements or sidewalks, the cement concrete shall be Class 4000, <br /> Type III. Asphalt concrete patching shall be accomplished with Asphalt Concrete, Class B. Tack coat shall be <br /> I applied between successive layers of asphalL Asphalt for tack coat shall be Type CSS-1.
