or aerial installation of Ihe mainline cable, the ^ontractor shall be responsible for sizing thc proper harciware for
installing the cable (i.e., suspension clamps, dead-end, etcJ. The acrial cable shall be installed with 18' ground
i clearance zt all locations. The cable shall be at least 12" clear of any other utility cables on the poles. Where the
cable will not meet the 12" minimum clearance, an optioal "stand off' stainless steel or galvanized mounting
bracket will be used. Cable must be nominally 40" below PUD service neutral wire.
IWhen pulling the cable in conduit, the cable pulling equipment must demonstrate that the total force on the cable
• does not exceed 50% of the acepted, published, and manufacmrer's mcommendations for each cable. Pulling
through junction boxes will be allowed with proper guides or pulleys. Caution shall be observed by the
Contracror while pulling the cables through conduits to prevent damage to cable jackets, shields,cr conduits. All
cable ends shall be taped ro exclude moisture during installation, and shall be kept taped until connections arc
made with terniinal strips. The sock used for pulling cables shall be as recommended by the cable mannfacturer
and as approved by the Engineer.
All splicing of the cable wnductos for overhead installation shall be allowed only in "ready access" closures.
The Contractor shall order and install the cables in such lengths as to ensure conformance to this Specification.
See "Aerial Junction Boxes(Ready Access Closures)",this section.
When cable is installed above existing utility communication cables(i.c., cable, TV), the sag shall be the same as
I those below it. Where this cable is the only communications cable to span between any two poles, the sag shall
be approximately I% to 2% of the span length. ]n all spans, the Contractor shall verify in the presence of the
Engineer that the cable tension is less than the maximum allowed by the cable manufacturer. The Contractor shall
I Frovide the Engineer++ith data from the cable manufacmrer that sets the maximum allowable tension and span.
The Contractor shall provide a 6' loop of the cable within the controller cabinet. The City will make thc
connections of the interconnect caUle to tie controllcrs after the intcrconnect cable has been completely installed
Iand tested by the Contractor.
If construction and installation of the telemetry system is not paid for on a lump sum basis, measurement and
i payment for cable installation will be as follows:
Paymcnt: Measu:ecnent for payment will be by the actual length of cable installed, as measured by the
t'ootage markings on the cable.
Payment will be made for the following bid items as are included in the proposal and payment will be madc
under.
1) _pair REA PE-39 filled cable installed in existing conduits, per linear foot.
2) _pair RA PE-38 filled cable inslalled on existing utility poles, per linear foot.
, The unit contract price(s) for the pay item(s) enumerated shall be fuil compensation for furnishing all materials,
labor, tools, and equipment necessary for lhe fulfillment of s;! the requicments of Ihese Specifications in lhe
execution of the work shown in the plarts or as required by the Gngince.
5-20.6(2) Tcrminal and Splicc Enclosures
All cable splicing locations shall be enclosed ii one of the following:
A. Aerial Junction Boxcs (Ready Access Closures): Aerial Junction boxec shall conform to Standari Plan
No. 81 I. For overhead interconnect, acrial junction boxes wili be used to enclose tertninal and splicing
locations. Aerial junction boxes shall only be located at poles. In cases where the terminal end of cable
is located at some distance behveeii poles, the cable shall be cut back to the nearest pole and the
junction box loca[ed at ihis pole.
p:4Vcw00MUYSPI_spec4ron9v.doe
David Lvans and i+ssociatcs,Ina SP-17 7ih Ava SFlI00tSL Signal Malification
IJmo998
