Aerial junction boxes shall be large enough for the ugurz"8" cable used on this project. Only approved branch kits of a rype compatible wiih tlie aerial junction buxes used on the project shall be used at all I bmnch locations. Connections w:thin aerial junction boxes shall bc made with self-stripping butt rype � connector which utilizes a 'u element connecting principal, which shears the insulation from the wire � �� and grasps tlie conducror with a constant metal-to-metal connection. The connector case shall be made of clear plastic to allow visual inspection of each connection. The connector shall be filied with a clear '� gel-type substance to seal moisture ou[of the connector. This connector shall not be of a reusable type. � Use 1M-ULG Type connectors. Yrovisions shall be made in each closure for positive grounding of the shield, drain wire and messenger cable. All metal parts used in these boxes shall be stainless stccl or I cast aluminum. All connections at each termination point shall be clearly and permanently rr�arked. All color coded pairs shall be continuous through the installation, except for spare pairs ihat may be used ` for traffic signal take-offs. ; I D. Underground Temiinal and Splice Enclosures: Underground cable terminations shall be enclosed in ', City fumished "Green Homet" Underground Terminal and Splice Enclosures. C. Tertninal Cabinets: Above ground telemetry terminaf cabinets shall be as indicated on City Standard IDrawing 518. The Contractor shall install the telemetry cables into the junction box designated in the plans for the splice. The Contractor shall coil 6' oC slack for each telemetry cable cntering the junction box. The City shall furnish the appropriate "Green HomeC' splicc kit for the required splices. The Contractor shall furnish Sco[ch Lok "UL.G" splice connectors (2 per pair) and any aerial juneticn Iboxes. City foroes shall make the splices in the junction box and the connections in the controller cabinet. I Telemetry cable splices shall be required at all controller drops and tertninal cabinets. Uther splice locations will be as sieeded to pull the wire only. Howr.ver, 6' of slack shail be coiled in each Type 3 junction box to allow for � possible future splices. Any additional splice locations must be approved by the engineer prior to pulling the cable. Payment for splice kits shall be incidental to eithe�•the telemetry cable bid item or to the lump sum bid item for I "Telemetry System". 8-20.G(4) Miscellaneous Cable Fittings pll miscellaneous fit[ings incfuding but not limitcd to dead-end clamps,comer clamps, and any fitting exposed to the weather shall be galvanized steel or stainless steel. Only stainless steel strand vise type dead-end attachments shall be allo�ved; device wedge rype clamps shall be stricUy prohibited. Splices in the messenger cnble shall bc made with a stainless steel strandlink(bullet type self- locking device)or approved equal. Aluminum fittings shall not bc allowed. All miscellaneous fittings necessary for the installation shall be considered incidental to other it:ms of work.
