The unit is described as basal till formed on till plains. <br /> According to the Soil Survey, the Aldervvood Gravelly Sandy Loam is rated as a low <br /> erosion susceptibility and has an erosion factor K (susceptibility of a soil to sheet and rill <br /> erosion by water) of 0.15. Values of K range from 0.02 to 0.69, and, the higher the <br /> value, the more susceptible the soil is to water erosion. Native soils observed within the <br /> vicinity of the project site are relatively consistent with the Soil Survey. <br /> COASTAL ZONE ATLAS <br /> According to the Washington State Department of Ecology's Coastal Zone Atlas, the <br /> south-facing shoreline slope on the subject property is mapped as "Intermediate". <br /> However, the DOE's disclaimer states, "these maps are intended to educate the public <br /> about the shoreline and to guide regional land use decisions. The maps SHOULD NOT <br /> be used as a substitute for site specific studies carried out by qualified geologists and <br /> engineers." <br /> Surface Conditions <br /> On April 27, 2011 a representative from �isited the subject site located at 1410 Grand <br /> Avenue in Everett Washington. The property is currently developed with an existing <br /> residence. Vegetation at the site consists of grass, brush and scattered small trees. <br /> The topography at the site slopes gently downward from Grand Avenue to the west for <br /> approximately 175 feet before reaching the top of a steep slope. The inclination then <br /> increases to a range of approximately 40 to 60 degrees and descends approximately 60 <br /> vertical feet to the railroad trecks. The slope is densely covered with various brush and <br /> wild grass. The existing deck and patio are located 25 feet from the top of the slope at <br /> its closest point and 37 feet at its furthest. Similar topography was observed on the <br /> adjacent properties to the north and south. All drain lines from the residence are <br /> currently tighlined to the base of the slope. <br /> A 3/8 inch pointed steel rod was used to probe the near surface soil at various locations <br /> in the vicinity of the existing patio and deck and penetrated less than 6 inch before <br /> meeting refusal on hard glacial till. Probing accessible areas of the slope face, <br /> penetration depth was less than 1 foot before refusal. <br /> No surface water was observed on the subject property at the time of our site visit. <br /> No obvious signs of recent instability, significant erosion or evidence of severe soil creep <br /> were observed on the subject property at the time of our site visit. <br /> CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> Based upon evaluation of the data collected during ihis investigation, it is our opinion <br /> that the existing patio and deck have not adversely impacted the site slope nor will the <br /> (uture deck cover. We understand that all roof drainage will tie into the existing drainage <br /> system and be directed to the base of the slope. <br /> Page 2 of 4 � <br />
