Specify on the plans which whole house ventilation system is used, single whole house exhaust
fan, combined source specific fans for whole house exhause, integration with forced-;ur systems
or dedicated heat recovery ventilation system.
The whole house system must be capable of providing at least 0.35 air changes ner tour but not
less than 15 cubic feet per minute. Indicate the minimum efm of the system on the plans.
4. For whole house exhaust by fan, specify the fan location(s), size(2), and sone rating of 1.5 at
0.1" water gauge or less (for fans within four feet of the interior intake grille).
Specify that the integrated forced-air ventilation system has a 6" diameter outdoor a'v inlet duct
connecting a terminal element on the outside of the building to the return plenum of the forced
air system including a damper. This system must be performance tested prior to final inspection
with the intake duct labeled with the installer, tester and the actual CFM's measured at intake.
6. Specify all duct work in heat recovery ventilation systems not less than 6" diameter, and
balancing dampers and flow measurement grids installed on the supply and return.
Outdoor air is required to be supplied to all habitable rooms for all whole house ventilation
systems. Specify the type of outdoor air system including individual outdoor air inlets, forced-
air heating system, ducting or equivalent means.
Show outdoor air inlet type and locations on the plans with screened and secure opening not less
than four square inches. 302.6
Note on the plans that outdoor air inlets shall not be placed ir the foUowing locations:
a. closer than 10' from an appliance vent outlet, unless such vent outlet is 3' above the outdoor
air inlet.
b. Where it will pick up objectionable odors, fumes or flammable vapors.
c. A hazardous or unsanitary location.
d. A room or space having any fuel-buming appliances.
