NELSON AND ASSOCIATES, INC.
ConciJting Enginecring Gculogy
March 20, 1990
Project No. 2890
Page 2
about the 4900 block on the west side of xarbor i.ane, in Everett, Washington.
Presently, the site is undeveloped, but occurs vithin an existing residential
development, and just north of an existing residence. Vegetation within the
lot area consists primari'yo uf qrass and blackberry vines, and small deciduous
trees. Topographically, the site is relatively flat lying adjacent to Ha:bor
Lane, but then begins to slope qently to moderately, and then steeply towards
the west and north. 't'he current plan is to ccnstruct a portion of the
proposed structure on the moderate and steep slopes.
SOILS CONDITIONS
The subsurface soils =tratigraphy can best be seen on the enclosed test pit
logs. In general, t:e site was found to be underlain at depth by dense
glacial till depoits, with local areas of surficial artificial fill.
The basal nat'_ve deposits encountered throughout the evaluated site area
consist of grey, dense, poorly sorted silty sand with 9ravel, considered
glacial till. The basal glacial till was found below about 3.5 to 5.5 feet
below 9rade across the proposed building area. Overlying the basal qlacial
till are deposits consistin9 of grey-brown, medium dense, gravelly silty sand,
considered weathered glacial till. This strata was found to vary from about
1 to 2.5 feet thick.
Native surficial soils, consisting of about 1.2 feet of dark brown to grey,
loose, silty fine sand with roots was encountered throughout most of the site
area. We found about 0.5 feet of fill over this in TP-3. The neighbor to the
south has placed fill on the slope, some of which appears to have encroached
on your property. This fill appears to consist of black, brown, grey and dark
brown, loose, gravelly silty sand, varying amounts oE organics and some
debris, etc., considered uncontrolled fill. The nei3hbor appears to have
placed this fill to increase his yard area. We did not specifically explore
the fill areas bserved. At the time of our exploration, the neighbor had
recently pushed additional fill on to the slope, and indicated that it "just
happened", implying that he had it pushed over the slope regardless of the
