construction with a chain link or solid wooden fence a minimum of 4 feet high, or
other fencing approved during the Engineering and Public Services plan review.
(SEPA Earth and Water Policies)
urface/Groundwatcr, PlanLs aad Mimals
6. No work is proposed within Mercill and Ring Creek or it's but'er. The following Best
Manigement Practices (BMPs) must be followed for all construction work adjacent to
Merrill and Ring Creek and its buffer, unless otherwise reiuired by a permit issued by
a fe.ieral or state agency.
Construction stagin areas must be located outside of euvironmentally sensitive
areas and their buffers, unless determined by the Planning Director to be infeasible.
Stream, wedands, buffers, staging areas and construction limits shall be clearly
shown o; construction plans. Construction limits shail be clearly marked in the
field with orange construction fencing.
• Work shall be done so as to minimize turbidity, erosion, and other water quality
impacts.
Proper erosion arxf sediment control measures shall be followed to prevent
sediments from entering creeks or wetlands. Erosion control measures shall be
approved by the Department of Engineering and Public Services acd/or agencies
with jurisdiction. Measures may include, but not be limited to, placing silt fences
and hay bales hetween construction areas and all adjacent wetlands and treams;
and placing ecology blocks between construction areas and streams or wtlands
when a temporary fill is used for roads, etc.
• Erosion control measures shall be in place and inspected prior to commencement of
work. All erosion control suvctures shall be inspected regularly to ensure they are
maintained in working order.
• When operating machinery in or near water, extreme care shall be taken to prevent
any petroleum products, cement, chemicals, or other toxic or deleterious materials
from entering the water. If a spill does occur, work shall be stopped immediately
and Ecology's Spill Response Section contacted.
• Equipment maintenance shall not occur in or adjacent to wetlands and streams.
A variety of native species can be planted to increase local diversiry and provide
attractive wildlife habitat while countering erosion. The use of native plants can also
improve water quality by minimizing the use of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
Water use efficiency is another advantage of landscaping with native plants. Reduced
irrigation means reduced likelihood of erosion, siltation, and landsliding resulting from
yd
