The building walls are tilt-up concrete, concrete floor, and built-up on wood <br />deck roof on baz joist on steel columns. In accordance with the UBC the building is <br />classified as a Type II[ N. <br />STORAGE ARRANGEbiENT AND USE <br />71�e faciliry will be used for the storage of paper records in cardboazd cartons on racks to a <br />maximum height of 41 feet 1-inches. <br />The method of storage and retrieval of the records is done by hand. Employees are <br />responsible for placing or removing the carton in the rack by hand. The storage system <br />utilized at this faciliry is designed to meet this requirement. For ease of operation and <br />safety the storage system utilizes a three level catwalk access system between the racks at <br />the 11 foot 8-inch, 21 foot 0-inch and 30 foot 4-inch elevations. <br />The catwalk system will be constructed of open metal grating between the racks, with a <br />main service aisle of solid wood deck on metal framework. The main aisle decking is <br />necessary for the movesnent of hand carts or pallet jacks. The catwalk system is supported <br />by the rack structwe and is not part of the building system. The typ+cal service space <br />between the racks will be between 30-inches and 32-inches widc. The main sisles will be <br />9 feet wide. Access aisles to the exits will be a minimum 44 inches wide. Access to the <br />catwalk levels will be by open stairs. A venical conveyor will be installed for movement <br />of boxes only, no personnel IiRs or elevators are provided. <br />The racks will be 8 feet 6-inches wide, service aisle to service aisle, by 10 feet 0-inches <br />long, with 3 to 6-inch transverse flue space. The 30 to 32 inch service access spaces <br />between the racks are considered to be the longitudinal flue spaces. The racks are standard <br />metal construction with the shelving material of 22 gauge-corrugated steel. The shelves <br />ue designed to accept cartons, which aze 12-inches wide, 10-inches high and 16-inches <br />deep. A rypical shelf will have three cartons deep, three cartons high and 9 cartons actoss. <br />PROTECTION SYSTEMS AND REOUIREMENTS <br />The new facility will be protected by four wet pipe sprinkler systems, with appropriate <br />water flo�v zones. The building sprinkler systems will be supplied from the underground <br />yazd main system, which will be connected to the city water supply system. <br />This facility will be used for the storage of paper records in cardboard cartons on standard <br />metal ncks and therefore, must be protected in accurdance with NFPA 231 C, Standard for <br />Rack Storage of Mnterials.
