Global Firc Protection Consulting, Inc.
4401 Weter Oak Coun
Concord, CA 94521
925-825-4643
fax 925-6914367
Separate gate valves and drains will be provided for the systems. 'fhe in-rack systems will
be zoned to correspond with the overhead sprinkler syster. zones. The in-rack sprinklers
will be equipped with U. L. listed water shields.
Vertical spacing, number of in-rack sprinklers and number of levels of in-rack sprinklers
exceed the requirements of Tabl^ 7-1 l. Vertical spacing in Table 7-11 is 15 feet actual
maximum spacing ill be 10 foot 0-inches.
Inside Hose Stations
1-1i2-inch hose valves and connections will be provided per the local Fire Department and
will be located throughout the building and rack system. The stations will be located on all
catwalk levels. Each outlet will have 1-1/2-inch vale, 100 fee• of hose, adjustable noule
and tack. Hose stations will be supplied from the adjoining ceiling sprinkler system.
Water Supply
The followin6 water supply data is based on the assumption that the city can meet the
demand. Water test will be conducted to confirm the available supply. Based on NFPA
231C criteria, ceiling sprinkler system demand is based on 600 gpm flowing in the most
remote azea and water demand will be based on hydraulic calculations. In-rack sprinkler
demand is based on a minimum design flow of 30 gpm. With a design of ten sprinklers
operating, the total in-rack demand is 300 gpm.
For combination inside and outside hose streams, an allowance of at least 500 gpm must be
added to the sprinkler system water demand.
The facility is supplied by a 12-inch city main in Hazdeson Road. Recent water test data in
the azea indicate a static of 103 psi, a residual of 100 psi while flowing 2,432 gpm.
The water supply duration must be at least two hours. The system is connected to the city
water supply and it is anticipated that the duration requirement is met. _
Based on the above requirements the total water demand, at the base of the riser is:
60 gpm for ceiling system
350 gpm for in-rack system
500 gpm for hose demand
Total: 1500 gpm is required for the ceiling sprinkler system. hose and in-rack sprinklers.
Iron Mountain
Everett, Washington
01-129b
L4'J
