The
occupant load for the IMRM facility is calculated based on an occupant load factor of 500
square feet per occupant per UBC. The calculated occupant load is 265 occupants. As
only 7% of the records are active the actual occupant load will be a maximum of 6 to 8
pemianent employees.
As indicated the storage system is designed for manual operation. The xrvice aisles
between the racks are for the employee to place or remove cartons. The width of the space
is 30-inches. The main work area is the main aisles and the receiving area. The UBC
section 1004.3.2.2, item 1 allows the aisles to be 24-inches when used only by employas.
Stairs will be located throughout the storage system for scrvicing and access to the exits.
The siairs will be open to the catwalk system. Based on the configuration of the building the maximum travel
distance from the most remote point will be measured from the upper elevation. The
location of stairs and exits meet the UBC requirement of a maximum of 250 feet travel. To
meet the required travel distance the north/south wall dividing the bailding will be used as
a horizontal exit.
Egress illumination will be provided at all times when the building is occupied. Exit signs
will be provided at all exiu and strategic locations within the rack system on all catwalk
levels. The egress illumination and exit signs will be provided with battery back-up system
to operate during a power failure.
