construccion with a chain link or solid wooden fence a minimum of 4 feet high, or
other fencing approved during the E•iginaering and Public Scrvices plan review.
(SEPA Earth and Water Policies)
Surface/Groundwater, Plants and AnLnals
No work is proposed within Merrill and Ring Creek or 'tt' ouffer. The followig lisl
Management Practices (►3MPs) must be followed for all construction work adjacent to
Mecritl and Ring Creek and its buffer, unless otherwise required by a permit issutd by
a federal or state agency.
Construction staging areas must be located outside of environmentally sensitie
areas and their buffers, unless determined by the Planning Director to be infeasible.
Streams, wetlands, buffers, staging areas and conswction limits shall be clearly
shown on construction plans. Construction limits shall be clearly marked in the
field with orange construction fencing.
• Work shall be done so as to minimize turbidity, erosion, and other water quality
impacts.
Proper erosion and sediment control measures shall be followed to prevent
sediments from entering creeks or wetlands. Erosion control measures shall be
approved by the Deparunent of Engineering and Public Services and/or agencies
with jurisdiction. Measures may includ" but not be limited to, placing silt fences
and hay bales between construction areas and all adjacent wetlands and streams;
and placing ecology blocks between construction areas and streams or wetlands
when a temporary fill is used for roads, etc.
• Erosion control measures shall be in place and inspected prior to commencement of
work. All erosion control structures shall be inspected regularly to ensure they are
maintained in working order.
When operating machinery in or near water, extreme care shall be taken to prevent
any petroleum products, cement, chemicals, or other toxic or deleterious materials
from entering the water. If a spill dces occur, vork shall be stopped immediately
and Ecology's Spill Response Section contacted.
• Equipment maintenance shall not occur in or adjacent to wetlands and streams.
A variety of native species can be planteJ ro increase lceal diversity and provide
attractive wildlife habitat while couniering erosion. The use of native plants can also
improve water quality by minimizing the use of fertiliurs, herbicides, and pesticides.
Water use efficiency is another advantage of landscaping with native plants. Reduced
irrigation means reduced likelihood of erosion, siltation, and landsliding resulting from
