Streetscape - Prominent Entrance: <br />Intent: To ensure that building entrances are easily identifiable and clearly visible <br />from street and sidewalks. <br />Guidelines: The principal entry shall be marked by at least two of the following: <br />Recessed entrance (recessed at least 3 ft.) <br />Protruding entrance (protruding at least 3 ft) <br />Canopy (extending at least 5 ft) <br />Portico (extending at least 5 ft) <br />Overhang (extending at least 5 ft) <br />Gateway/trellis <br />Ornamentation around the door <br />Streetscape Elements <br />Intent: To create a more pedestrian friendly street through the use of site <br />furnishings. <br />Guidelines: Publicly -usable site furnishings such as benches, tables, bike racks <br />and other pedestrian amenities shall be provided at building entrances and other <br />pedestrian areas for all buildings. Specific types of site furnishings shall be <br />approved by the City if in the right-of-way. <br />Sidewalks and Street Trees <br />Intent: To establish a consistent character for street right-of-ways and enhance <br />the natural, aesthetic and urban environment as well as improve pedestrian <br />safety. <br />Guidelines: <br />Street trees shall be planted between the curb and the walking path of the <br />sidewalk. Large trees with overhanging canopies or branches are desirable. <br />However, species of street trees shall be of a type approved by the City. <br />Street trees shall be located in a planting area with a minimum width of 7 ft from <br />the sidewalk to the curb, with Type II Landscaping in that area. Landscaping and <br />walk areas may be in the right of way if approved by the City. <br />Between the building and sidewalk there shall be a minimum of 7 ft of Type II <br />Landscaping. Street trees shall be a minimum of 2 1/2" caliper and shall be <br />spaced no further apart than 25 ft. Street tree planting should consider the <br />location of existing utilities, lighting and proposed signs. Sidewalks shall consist <br />of a clear walking path at least 8 ft wide (in addition to the minimum 7 ft planting <br />zone for street trees between the curb and sidewalk and 7 ft minimum landscape <br />between the building and sidewalk). Tree grates should be installed at the base <br />of each street tree when needed. <br />IN <br />
