January 31, 2005
Dear Whomever It May Concern,
I am a resident on the 1400 block of Oakes Ave. and am writing to express my
displeasure at Providence Health System's plans to encroach upon our neighborhood.
When I first moved to Everett in the late 1990's, I was pleasantly surprised to find this
gem of a neighborhood in an area I had never given much consideration. The Northwest
Neighborhood has old-time charm and relatively affordable prices. However, this
neighborhood is small enough as it is. We need these well-built, affordable houses to
attract young professionals and families to our region, not to drive them away.
I can appreciate the hospital's plans to expand and grow as a business, but, I am not
convinced that many other options have been explored. I understand that the Donovan
demolition would be the most cost-effective and convenient for Providence, but the best
solution is not always the easiest. There is in North Everett, unfortunately, an abundance
of less desirable properties that would be a much better location for hospital expansion.
An Everett Community College land swap and the hospital's Broadway property are
some suggested solutions. These homes cannot be replaced. Much of commercial North
Everett can be. Let's fully explore other options.
Please help us preserve the Donovan District.
Sincerely,
I 1k
Id
X% ,
Karen Zulinke
