SITE
ANALYSIS
Guest Facilities — Guest Circulation
Public circulation should feel gracious,
be well lit and contain the necessary amenities to
help guests enjoy attending an event. This report
assumes a main arena entry/ticket lobby with at
least one additional public entry. The main entry
should be located on an appropriately sized
outdoor public space, with a drop off area in
reasonable proximity.
This report allows for the possibility
that the building may need to be entered at the
event level due to site conditions. If the site
allows the building to be entered at the event
level, circulation could be reduced by 5 to 10%.
This report does not allow for the possibility of a
dedicated private premium/suite level. If this is
desired an increase of at least 3,500 square feet
should be anticipated.
Event Facilities
The following groups of areas relate to
functions for staging the events. The descriptions
are as they relate to the sizing, orientation, and
general requirements of the building. They are as
follows:
Event Facilities — Arena Event Floor Facilities
This is the physical area in which the
event is conducted or staged The assumption is
this venue will be planned on hockey geometry
with the hockey rink as the event floor. This area
can be expanded with the use of retractable and
portable seating. Planning should also
accommodate flat shows and exhibitions. This
report assumes that this will be achieved by
utilizing the area vacated by the retractable
seating, along with the use of some of the
marshaling area. Also a stage could be added and
the ice rink will be used for seating to redirect
the area to an end stage venue.
The event floor, storage, marshaling and
retractable seating are assumed to act as one
space. There must be close, direct proximity to a
loading dock area. This also needs to be close to
electrical service for lighting and sound.
Consideration needs to be given to television
truck and satellite uplink truck parking and
staging as it relates to sporting events.
Event control areas are mostly over the
floor, rather that on the floor. Convenient access
from the floor to these areas is essential.
Overhead rigging that lowers staging lighting
grids to the floor will be necessary. An overhead
catwalk system for lighting and sound control
will also be required.
For ice resurfacing and removal an ice
pit with space for parking a Zamboni will be
required. Extra height at this entry will be
required for the clearance requirements of the
Zamboni.
Event Facilities — Team Facilities
Team facilities must have dedicated, direct
access to the event floor. Separate entries for
each team are required. The home team locker
rooms and administration are dedicated use and
need to be accessible to each other. Preferably
the administration will have a public entry.
Brailsford & Dunlavey/Ellerbe Becket
Page 25
