A representative number of in-ptace density tests should <br /> be perfonned to verify that the required compaction is being achieved. <br /> SLOPE CONSIDERATIONS <br /> I <br /> Temporary and Permenent Stopes <br /> For plazuung purposu,wc suggut temporary cut slopes of O.SH:1V(horizontal to veRical) <br /> � in the very decv�^nati�e till soils, and 1H:1V in all other soil types. Thae inclinations may have <br /> i <br /> to be modified by the contractor if localized sloughing occurs. Since the coutractor has contro <br /> �. of the construction operations, he should be made responsible for the stability of cut slopes, as <br /> ! ` well as the safery of the excavations. All shoring and temporary slopes must confortn to <br /> applicable local, state and federat safety ngulations. <br /> We recommend permanent cut slopes in the dense to very dense glacial till be inclined no <br /> � steeper than 1'hH:1V. Permanent cut slopes in all other soils should be in•:lined no steeper than <br /> ,� 2H:1V. <br /> � As discussed in the previous sxtion, all fill placed on existing slopes s�ould be properly <br /> keyed into the native soils. We rewmmend permanent fill slopa be inclined no steeper than <br /> � 2H:1V. <br /> aSlope Setbacks � <br /> ' With the exception of the extreme notthwest corner of the site and along Mettill Ring <br /> r., Creek, we understand that the planned grading activitia will result in finished slope inclinations <br /> on the otder of 20 percertt or las. In the northwest comer and near the creek, native slopes <br /> inclined between about 30 to 50 percent will remain undisturbed. We recommend that <br /> appropriate building setbacks and/or stn►ctural elements be used to avoid adverse impacts on or <br /> from sceep slopes. If appropriate erosion and drainage controls are implemented duting and <br /> maintained after const�uction, we recommend a building setback or dapened foundation to <br /> maintain a setback of 25 feet or H/3 (where H is the vertica: height of the slope), w6ichever is <br /> ' greater. <br /> Slope Stability <br /> Small portions of the steep bank along Merrill Ring Creek near the eastem properry <br /> boundary of the site are sioped at greater than 50 percent. Our reconnaissance rovealed no <br /> obvious indications of deep-seated slope instability, though su�cial erosion and sloughing was <br /> observed whea surface water is concentrating on the slope face. Based on our cbservations, it <br /> is our opinion that the slopes are presently stable, with the exception of very small areas <br /> immediately adjacent to the creek where areas of surface water concentration are causing normal <br /> 1 incision procasa and small areas experiencing shallow sloughing activity because of localiud <br /> G e o E n � I n e e r s 9 FOe No. U60-0Of-73•1170/l l 1t97 <br />
