Document the results of our explorations, findings, conclusions, and recommendations in <br />a written geotechnical engineering report. <br />SITE CONDITIONS <br />Surface Conditions <br />The site is an irregularly shaped parcel consisting of two lots covering just under one -acre. The property <br />is bordered to the north by Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad, to the south by Mukilteo Boulevard, <br />and to the east and west by residential properties. The property is situated on a gentle to steep north - <br />facing slope overlooking Possession Sound. <br />A single-family residence with a basement, a shed, and a driveway asses, from Mukilteo Boulevard <br />currently occupy the central portion of the property. Apple trees, cedar trees, hydrangea bushes, roses, <br />blackberry bushes and a lawn area surround the existing house. The steep slope on the northern side of <br />the property is approximately 100 feet in height and has an overall inclination of about 40 degrees (84 <br />percent) down to the north, as shown on Cross-section A -A' in Figure 3. The slope is vegetated with <br />scattered alders, blackberry bushes and underbrush. <br />We did not observe surface water on site or seepage on the slope during our visits on August 18 and 30, <br />2005. Sloughing soil was noted from a near vertical portion of the top of the slope near the east property <br />line. The area of sloughed soil was about 10 feet wide and exposed silty sand material. <br />Subsurface Conditions <br />Geology: The geologic units for this area are shown on the Distribution and Description of Geologic <br />Units, Mukilteo Quadrangle, Washington, by James P. Minard (U.S.G.S., 1982). The site is mapped as <br />Transitional Beds (Qtb). This unit is described as thick beds of clay, silt, and fine sand. Our explorations <br />generally encountered sand and silty sand deposits consistent with the description of Transitional Beds. <br />Explorations: The subsurface conditions within the site were explored on August 30, 2005, by drilling <br />three borings to depths ranging from 29.0 to 4S.0 feet below the existing surface using a truck mounted <br />NELSON GEOTECHNICAL ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />
