We espect th.0 cotnpaction of the native soils to shtctural fill
specifications would bc cxtrcmcly difficult, iPnot impossible, during wet weather.
Fill Placement: Pollowing subgrade preparation, placcment of the structural fill may proceed. All
bckfilling should be accomplished in uniform litis up to 10 inches thick, dcpending on the size of the
compaction cquipmcnt. Each lifl should be spread cvenly and be thuroughly compacted prior ro
placemcnt of subscqucnt lifis. All stnictural fill underlying building arens, and within 2 feet of pavement
subgrade, sliould be compacted to a minimum af 95 percent of its maximum dry density. Maximum dry
densiry, in this report, rcfers to lhat dcnsity as detennincd by the ASTM D-1557 Compaction Tcst
procedure. Fills more than 2 fcet bencatli sidcwalks and paemcnt subgradcs should be compacted ro at
Icast 90 percent of thcir maximum dry density. Thc moisture content of the soils to be compacted should
he within about 2 percent of optimum so that a rcadily-compactable condition exists. It may be necessary
to overexcnvate and remoe wet soils in cases whcrc drying to a compactablc condition is not fcasiblc.
All compnction should bc accomplishcd by cquipment of a typc and sire sufficicnt to attain thc dcsired
degrcc of compac[ion.
Foundations
Comentionnl shallow sprcad foundations should bc placcd on undiswrbcd mcdium dcnsc or bMtcr nativc
soils or be supportcd on stnctural (ill, rock spalls, or concrctc extending to thosc soils.
