i � 1 5-04.3(5)D Soil Residual Herbicide 2 Where shown in the Plans, the Contractor shall apply one application of an � 3 approved soil residual herbicide. Paving shall begin within 24 hours after 4 application of the herbicide. Any area that has not been paved within the time 5 limit or that has been rained on, shall be treated again at the Contractor's 6 expense. The herbicide shall be applied uniformly in accordance with the � ' 7 manufacturer's recommendations. 8 � 9 The material to be used shall be registered with the Washington State 10 Department of Agriculture for use under pavement. Before use, the Contractor 11 shali receive approval of the material to be used and the proposed rate of 12 application, from the F.ngineer. The following information shall be included in { 13 the request for approval of the material: Brand name of the material, � 14 manufacturer, Environmental Pro2ection Agency (EPA) registration number, 15 material safety data sheet, and proposed rate of application. ; 16 17 5-04.3(5)E Pavement Repair 18 The Contractor shall excavate pavement repair areas and shall backfill these 19 with HMA in accordance with the details shown in the Plans and as staked. ' 20 21 The actual excavation depth may vary to a maximum depth of 1-foot maximum, r 22 depending upon where stable foundatior material is encountered, as I 23 determined by the Engineer. 24 � 25 The minimum width of any pavement repair area shall be 3 feet unless shown 26 otherwise in the Plans. All pavement repair areas shall be sawcut before � 27 removal, or shall be removed by a pavement grinder approved by the Engineer. 28 ` 29 Asphalt for tack coat shall be required as specified in Section 5-04.3(5)A, and 30 shall be applied to all edges of existing pavement in the pavement repair area. 31 � 32 The Contractur shall excavate only within one lane at a time. The areas shall 33 be excavated, backfilled, and compacted within the same day's working shift, in 34 accordance with the details shown in ihe Plans and to the satisfaction of the � 35 Engineer. 36 37 Excavated materials wiil become the property oF the Contractor for disposal off 38 the right of way. 39 40 The Contractor shall conduct the excavation operations in a manner that will 41 protect the pavement areas not designated to be removed. Pavement not � 42 designated to be removed that is damaged as a result of the Contractor's 43 operations shali be repaired by the Contractor to the salisfaction o( the 44 Engineer at no cost to the Contracling Agency. + 45 46 Placement of the HMA backfill shall be accomplished in lifts. Each lift shali not 47 exceed 0.35 foot compacted depth. Compaction shali be accomplished by i 48 mechanical tamper or a roller as approved by the Engineer. 49 50 HMA for pavement repair shall be HMA Class A, B, E, or F at the Contractor's I 51 option, unless otherwise specified in the contract.
