i <br /> � 1 5-04.3(5)D Soil Residual Herbicide <br /> 2 Where shown in the Plans, the Contractor shall apply one application of an <br /> � 3 approved soil residual herbicide. Paving shall begin within 24 hours after <br /> 4 application of the herbicide. Any area that has not been paved within the time <br /> 5 limit or that has been rained on, shall be treated again at the Contractor's <br /> 6 expense. The herbicide shall be applied uniformly in accordance with the <br /> � ' 7 manufacturer's recommendations. <br /> 8 <br /> � 9 The material to be used shall be registered with the Washington State <br /> 10 Department of Agriculture for use under pavement. Before use, the Contractor <br /> 11 shali receive approval of the material to be used and the proposed rate of <br /> 12 application, from the F.ngineer. The following information shall be included in <br /> { 13 the request for approval of the material: Brand name of the material, <br /> � 14 manufacturer, Environmental Pro2ection Agency (EPA) registration number, <br /> 15 material safety data sheet, and proposed rate of application. <br /> ; 16 <br /> 17 5-04.3(5)E Pavement Repair <br /> 18 The Contractor shall excavate pavement repair areas and shall backfill these <br /> 19 with HMA in accordance with the details shown in the Plans and as staked. <br /> ' 20 <br /> 21 The actual excavation depth may vary to a maximum depth of 1-foot maximum, <br /> r 22 depending upon where stable foundatior material is encountered, as <br /> I 23 determined by the Engineer. <br /> 24 <br /> � 25 The minimum width of any pavement repair area shall be 3 feet unless shown <br /> 26 otherwise in the Plans. All pavement repair areas shall be sawcut before <br /> � 27 removal, or shall be removed by a pavement grinder approved by the Engineer. <br /> 28 <br /> ` 29 Asphalt for tack coat shall be required as specified in Section 5-04.3(5)A, and <br /> 30 shall be applied to all edges of existing pavement in the pavement repair area. <br /> 31 <br /> � 32 The Contractur shall excavate only within one lane at a time. The areas shall <br /> 33 be excavated, backfilled, and compacted within the same day's working shift, in <br /> 34 accordance with the details shown in ihe Plans and to the satisfaction of the <br /> � 35 Engineer. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Excavated materials wiil become the property oF the Contractor for disposal off <br /> 38 the right of way. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 The Contractor shall conduct the excavation operations in a manner that will <br /> 41 protect the pavement areas not designated to be removed. Pavement not <br /> � 42 designated to be removed that is damaged as a result of the Contractor's <br /> 43 operations shali be repaired by the Contractor to the salisfaction o( the <br /> 44 Engineer at no cost to the Contracling Agency. <br /> + 45 <br /> 46 Placement of the HMA backfill shall be accomplished in lifts. Each lift shali not <br /> 47 exceed 0.35 foot compacted depth.
