Upon written request from the Contractor, the Projecl
4 Engineer may approve field adjuetments to the JMF including the
5 Contractor's proposed combinirn• ratios for mineral aggregate
I 6 stockpiles and blend sand. The maximum allowed gradation
7 change shall be 2 percent for th aggregate retained on the
8 No. 10 sieve and above, 1 percent for the aggregate passing the
9 No. 10 and No. 40 sieves, and 0.5 percent for the aggregate
10 passing ihe No. 200 sieve. Blend sand may be changed a
11 maximum of 5 percent. The above adjustments and/or any further
12 adjustments as ordered by the Engineer will be considered as a
13 new JMF. Adjustments beyond these limits will require
I 14 development of a new JMF. The adjusted JMF plus or minus the
15 allowed tolerances shall be within the range of the broad band
j 16 specifications.
I 17
18 2. Asphalt Binder Content. The Project Engineer may order or
I 19 approve the Contractor's request to change asphalt binder
20 content a maximum of 0.3 percent from the approved JMF. No
21 field adjustments of the JMF relative to the asphalt binder content
I 22 exceeding 0.3 percent from the initial JMF will be made without
23 the approval of the Materials Engineer.
24
I 25 D. Commercial HMA Acceptance. The contractor shall submit a
26 certification ihat the mix design submitted meets the requirements of
27 Proportions of Materials. Verification of the mix design by the
28 Contracting Agency is not required. The Project Engineer will
I 29 determine anti-sirip requirements for the HMA.
 30
31 4. Hot Mix Asphalt Mixture
I 32
33 A. 5ampling
34
35 1. A sample wiil not be obtained (rom either the first or last 25 tons
36 of mix produced in each production shift.
37
38 2. Samples for compliance of gradation and asphalt binder content
39 will be obtained on a random basis from the hauling vehicle. The
d0 Contractor shall provide adequate platforms to enable sample, to
41 be obtained in accorence with V!^nTC FOP for AASHTO T 168.
42 The platforms shall allow the sample to be taken without the
43 Engineer enlering the hauling vEhicle.
44
45 B. Definition of Sampling Lot and Sublot. For the purpose of acceptance
46 sampling and testing, a lot is defined as the total quantity of material
47 or work produced for each job mix formula (JMF), placed and
48 represented by randomly selected samples tested for acceptance. All
49 of the test results obtained irom the acceptance samples shall be
50 evaluated collectively and shall constitute a lot.
