i
1 completed surface of the wearing course shall not vary more than [1/8 inch
2 from the lower edge of a 10-foot straightedge placed on the surface parallel to
3 the centerline. The transverse slope of the completed surface of the wearing
4 course shall vary not more than Y. inch in 10 feet from the rate of transverse
5 slope sho,vn in the Plans.
i 6
7 When deviations in excess of the above tolerances are fuund that result from a
8 high place in lhe HMA, the pavement surface shali be corrected by one of the
 9 following methods:
10
11 1. Removal of material from high places by grinding with an approved
12 grinding machine, or
13 2. Removal and replacement of the wearing course of HMA, or
14 3. By other method approved by the Project Engineer.
15
I 16 Correction of defects shall be carried out until there are no deviations anywhere
17 greater than the allowable tolerances.
18
i 19 Deviations in excess of the above tolerances that resuit from a low place in the
20 HMA and deviations resulting from a high place where corrective action, in the
21 opinion of the Project Engineer, wil not produce satisfactory results will be
22 accepted wilh a price adjustment. The Project Engineer shall deduct from
23 monies due or that may become due to the Contractor the sum of $500.00 for
24 each and every section of single traffic lane 100 feet in length in which any
25 excessive deviations described above are found.
I 26
27 When Portland cement concrete pavement is to be placed on HMA, the surface
28 tolerace of the HMA shall be such that no surface elevation lies above the
29 plan grade minus the specified olan depth of Portland cement concrete
30 pavement. Prior to placing the Portland cement concrete pavement, any such
31 irregularities shall be brought to the required tolerance by grinding or other
32 means approved by the Project Engineer.
I 33
34 When utility apprtenances such as manhole covers and valve boxes are
35 located in the traveied way, the roadway shall be paved before the utility
I 3S appurtenances are adjusted to the finished grade.
37
 3b 5-04.3(14) Planing Bituminous Pavement
39 The sur(ace of existing pavements or the top surface of subsurface courses
40 shali be planed to remove irregularities and to produce a smooth surface.
i 41
42 Planing shali be performed in such a manner that the underiying pavement is
43 not torn, broken, or othervvise damaged by the planing operation. The surface
44 oi the underlying pavement shall be slightly grooved or roughened sufficiently
45 to ensure a bond when overlaid.
46
47 The planings shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be removed
48 from the right-of-way. The planings may be utilized as RAP, within the
49 requirements of Section 5-04.2 or 9-03.21. The Contractor shall dispose of all
50 olher debris resulting from the planing operation in a Contractor-provided site
51 oif the right-of-way.
Port of Everett FAWAT-03-039
Satellite RaillBarge Transfer Facfiity Final Port Revlew Draft
 Phase 1:Pier Construction 67 15 Mareh 2005
