' (Arhyrium fifir-femina)and a scattercd crabapple(Pyrus fucur)were observed. This
wetland occupies 13.108 squarc feet (03 aaes) in siu, of which 7,968 square ket
' (0.18 aae)occur on thc subject properry. Acmrding to the US Fish and Wildlik
Servia system, this wetland would be clacsified as palustrine, scrub-shrub, braud-
leaved (semi•) evergreen, seasonal saturatcd.
' Due to the hydrologic isolation of this wetland, its small siu,and shallow charaaer,
this weAand provides nnly a small emount of storm and flood water srorage function.
' Being an isolated depicccion, the wetland fundions as a groundwater discharge area,
and not a recharge area. Although the wetland has a dense mat of moss and is well
vegetated with vazcular plants, its hydrologic isolation aud lack of association with
' urban or agriculmralunoff, currently provides IitQe water quality improvement;nor
is it providing shoreline protection from erosive waters. 7Le seasonal water regime
of this wetland, rnmbined with its small siu and vegetative charader, provides little
t habitet value. 'Ihe habitat value that is present is more closely associated with the
uplar.d vegetation and the edge etfcct. Based on its seasonal character, small siu,
and lack of habitat diversiry, this wetland is wnsidered to be of low functional value.
, Both the North Creek stream mrridor weAand and the isolated depression wetland
were reviewed and discussed in the field with Ted Muller,Washington Department
ot Wildli(e. Mr. Muller agreed thai the wetland associated with Nonh Creek was
uf high v>lue, and that the isolated depression provided little habitat value.
AtUuent 1Jplend Vegeletion
1 The adjacrnt upland areas arc characterized as a mixed mniferous forest with
Douglas lir (Psuedotsuga menziesii) dominating the higher elevation areas, and
westem red adar (T7uja plicata) and westem hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla)
daminating the areas immediately adjacent to the stream mrridor. A mid-story layer
mmprised of vine maple and cascara (RHamnus purshiana) also occurs. 71ie
understopis dominated by Oregon grape(Berberis repercs),sword fem(Potvsrid+um
' munifum), and Pacific blackberry (Ru6us ursinus). Occurring mmmonly in the
understmy are salmonberry, rcd huckleberry (Vaccinium parviJlomm), and red
t elderberry(Sambucur mcemosa). PaciGc bleeding•hean(Dicentm fonnosa)and false
lilyro(-the-vallty (Maianthenum di(amm) were commanly observed forbs in the
upland.
1
'
1
,

'
