The handgrip portion of handrails shall be not less than 1 1/2 inches nor more <br />than 2 inches in cross sec[ional dimension or the shape should provide an <br />equivalent gripping surface. The acceplability of equivalent shapes will be <br />determined by the building official. The handgrip portion shall have a smooth <br />surface with no sharp comers. Section 3306(i). <br />✓7. Six feet-8 inch minimum headroom clearance for stairways is required. Section <br />3306(0). Note that this is measured vertically from a plane tangent to the <br />stairway vead nosing. <br />�'�. Handrails must have their ends returned or terminate in newel posts of safety <br />terminals. An architectural secdon through the corridor is <br />necessary to determine how this is accomplished. <br />✓12. Interior openings into corridors aze required to be protected as set foRh in <br />Section 3305(h). Self-closing or automatic dosing twenty-minute rate�l door <br />assemblies properly gasketed should be provided. Other openings are limited to <br />3/4-HR rated fixed glazing and shall not excecd 25% of the area of the common <br />wall. <br />13. All doorways leading to accessible rooms shall have an unobstructed clear width <br />of not less than 32 inches. Section 3106(j), This item applies to the janitor and <br />mechanical rooms on the first and second floors. <br />14. Accessible doors shall have maneuvering clearances per Section 3106(j)3. This <br />itcm applies to the doors serving bedroom N1, elevator lobbies, lst floor entry, <br />and bedrooms i/2,3,4,5,6. <br />
