Meeting Minutes
WMFL Project No. 8105.02
Page 3
January 27, 198a
Item =14: (a) Housing module design (mezzanine with 2-story dayroom) is
acceptable. The dayroom areas are provided with a smoke
exhaust system that meets Jail Commission standards. (b)
Outdoor recreation areas are okay as designed.
Item #26: Okay. Safety glazing will be identified in accordance with
Section 5402.
Exit Comments
Item #1: Okay. Stair systems as designed are acceptable without
smoke roof enclosure vestibules. The 1982 UBC (Section
3310(M allows smokeproof enclosures to be omitted, provided
all enclosed exit stairways are equipped with a dampered
relief opening at the top and the stairway is supplied mechan-
ically with sufficient air to meet UBC standards.
Item #2: Okay. Security demands alternates.
Item #3: Okay. Security screen over outdoor recreation areas on Level
5 is acceptable.
Item #7: Okay. Booking area design is acceptable. It was felt that
— - requiring the area to be redesigned to meet 1-hour exit
corridor requirements would compromise the security and
function of the booking/intake area.
Item #8: (b) The central exit stair integrity is violated by having
door #172 exit into an unprotected area of the building. It
was decided to resolve this problem by either moving door #172
to the outside face of the building or changing door #156 to
11-hour fire rated assembly with 2-hour wall protection on
each side of the door. WMFL will discuss the alternatives and
decide the optimum solution. A change order will be required.
(c) The stair barrier gate will be moved to provide a
landing. Change order required.
Item #12: Okay. Doors opening into corridors #529 and 544 are accept-
able for security reasons. The individual rooms are ac-
cessible to inmates and doors swinging out of the rooms
precludes inmates barricading themselves into the room and
preventing staff access.
MECHANICAL:
The items discussed in this section were the result of the ICBO review
dated January 10, 1984 and the response from HNTB dated January 17,
1984.
