f
II-11 . Employment and Population - [he impac[ of our Proposal upon [he immediate
Southwest Everett area is not considered [o be of great significance.
Our employee residence distribution has been recen[ly compiled to show
the geographical areas affected b; our presence. A[tached are copies
of the residence surveys for both our Mountlake Terrace and for our
Everett facilities.
From this data you can see that over sixty (60) percent uf our Mountlake
Terrace employees presently reside in [he Snohonish County area as
compared to 82Y. a[ our Evere[t Plant. .
Qur estimate of the Phase I impact of our Proposal indicates that an
initial 15 to 20 percent of [he total number of ltountlake Terrace
facility employees (594) would relocate. This 20 percen[ or 119 employees
who would consider movinF to Everett or Snohomish County from Seattle
" or east of Lake Washing[on, represen[s over 51 percent of [hose employees
currntly residfng in the King County area (see Mcantlake Terrace
„ employees residence ta'ole). As indicated earlier, no new hires are
anticipated in conjunction with Phase I.
Since thz manufac[uring of electronic instrumentation is considered
a basic industry, a "multiplier e£Eec' mus[ he taken in[o consideration
as well. Each of [he 119 employees relocating into [he area could
generate approximately 2 additional 3obs in Snohomfsh County: applying
the multiplier shows an indirec[ employment impacc of 238 jobs.
A reduction in employment in King County is anticipated since the
eroployees relocating in Evere[t an. Snohomish County wi21 be trznsferred
from the riountlake Terrace facility. In fact, all 594 e::o.'.oyees
currently eepleye' at the Mountlake ierrcz facili:y will be transferred
ta the Everett site; therefore, these obs will be elimineted in
Mountlake Terrace. Employment reduction in King Caunty would be 238
secondary emnloymen[ jobs (due to relocation of 1]9 basic industry
employees).
The population impact is arr.ived at by applying the multiplier to the
number of employees relocating to the Everett and Snohomish County area.
The 20 percent oc 119 employees who would relocate could genera[e two
additional obs each or a .238 job indirec employment impact. Thus,
the impact of Phase I would add a total of 35? employees who would
potentially reside 3n Everett or Snohomish Couuty. Assuming a family
population ra[e of 2.7 people per household, we arrive at [he maximum
impact of the proposal of 964 additional people.
A eimilar reduction of popula[ion in King County wuld be an[icipated
as transferred employees relocate.
In summary it is believed that the overall impact apon the population
of the general area, and in particu7.ar to the City of Evsrett, would
be minimal and should be within thr, general growth plan:i of the community. i
-5-
,
' . .
