OffSke Wedands and Streams
Wetland A extends off-site to the north and south. The wetland has been altered off-site to the north,
where a man-made dam has been constructed within Pigeon Creek. Pigeon Creek extends off-site to
the north and south. A man-made dam is located within the stream to the nor!h.
FUNCTIONS AND VALUES
Wetland Functions and 1alues
Wetland functions and values are numerous and varied and consequentiy have been described by
several wetland investigators (WDOE 1993, Adamus et al. 1991, Marble 1990). As part of their
natural biological fundion, wetland habitats support diverse populations of plants and animais. They
provide areas for breeding, rearing, feeding, and resting for migratory watertowl other wildlife species.
Many economically valuable populations inhabit wetlands including waterfowl, fish and sheilfish.
Wetland habitats are also crucial to the survival of a number of threatened and endangered species.
Additional functons (or public utilities) and values include hydrologic support, shoreline protection,
storm and flood water storage, groundwater discharge and recharge, and water quality improvement.
Wetland values can be assessed by the degree to which they support these functions. Nowever,
detailed scientific knowledge of wetland functions is limited so that site-specific evaluations are
ecessarily qualitative and dependent on professional judgment. See Appendix B for Wetland A
eraluations.
Figure 5: FuncGon and Value Assessment af Wetlands and Buffers Occurring on the Subject
Property.
Proposed Land use activity
BarJack LLC is proposing to selectively harvest trees on the subject property. The tree harvest is
intended to remove potentially hazardous trees located on the site that are near residences on the
site, and on adjacent properties. The site is prone to windfall and has experienced damage due to
falling trees in the past. No new development is proposed on the subject property. All efforts have
been made to avoid impacts to critical areas. Gue to the presence of critical areas and their buffers,
tree harvest will be limited to those areas outside cf the critical areas and their huffers.
12 rr\
