SCHEDULE B: SMI i ISLAND LANDFfLL i 177065B <br />PHASE 2 CLOSURE IMPROVEMENTS <br />soil cover material. Compact excavated sediment lifts by track -walking into <br />place with a minimum three passes with a Caterpillar D6M-LGP, or equal. <br />3.3 WASTE EXCAVATION AND REGRADING <br />A. Excavate to lines, grades, and dimensions shown and as necessary to <br />accomplish Work. Excavate waste from high areas and place in low areas to <br />create the waste grading plan shown on the Drawings. <br />B. Waste excavation shall include removal of wood chip drainage enhancement <br />dikes and settlement monitors. Excavated wood chips shall be blended and <br />spread with excavated waste material over the landfill surface. Settlement <br />monitoring equipment shall be removed from the landfill area and disposed at <br />an offsite location arranged by the Contractor. <br />C. Do not overexcavate without written authorization of Engineer. <br />D. The natural moisture content and workability of the existing waste material is <br />expected to be variable. Waste material may need to be excavated, spread, and <br />dried prior to regrading and placement as specified in Section 02316, Fill and <br />Backfill. Contractor may opt to amend the waste material with suitable <br />materials, as approved by the Engineer, to improve workability and handling <br />characteristics and allow waste material to be placed and compacted as <br />specified in Section 02316, Fill and Backfill. <br />3.4 OUTLET PIPE TRENCH AND SUMP MANHOLE EXCAVATION <br />A. Excavation for outlet pipe, trench, and sump manhole shall be of sufficient <br />width to provide adequate room for workmen to perform any ne=,sary <br />service to the materials or items being installed therein and to pe,mit proper <br />compaction of the backfill. <br />B. Minimum Width of Trenches: As shown on Drawings. Increase trench widths <br />by thickness of excavation support and safety system installed. <br />C. If wet or otherwise unsatisfactory soil is encountered in a trench excavation, at <br />or below the trench bottom, it shall be brought to the attention of the Engineer <br />and removed as directed. The bottom of the excavation shall then be brought <br />to the required grade with trench stabilization material as specified in <br />Section 02320, Trench Backfill. <br />D. Dispose of excavated waste material within the landfill limits prior to <br />placement of soil cover material.
